How it all began

In 2007 businesses at the Angel voted overwhelmingly to set up a business improvement district to improve the trading environment, making it safer, cleaner and brighter for everyone working and living here.

But it all began in 1999 with local businessmen Jack Morris, who owned the Business Design Centre (left), Lou Segal, founder of Frederick's restaurant, and representatives from interested banks and chain retailers lobbying Islington Council declaring they were prepared to invest time and money to improve the area.

The first town centre manager was appointed in 2001, funded by contributions from the council and voluntary payments from a few prominent businesses.
